Research Proposal for HR Management

Solution

Introduction and Rationale

The project topic is the “creation of a human resource management system that deals with extra holidays or extra paid leaves application through the staff applying for a holiday or for annual leave." This system is very essential for every size of organization as it is very difficult to keep the track of leaves by the manager manually. The system will save the time and will reduce the complexity. Therefore, the development of HRM system that would provide such flexibility is essential. The aim of the project is to develop a system of human resource management in order to maintain the records of leaves online and address the various issues of management of leaves which can be caused if staff applied for extra paid leaves or holidays. Generation Y requires flexible extra holiday and annual leave system because they does not like to work on regular basis and they also need flexibility while working as they cannot perform same job all the time.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Complete a literature search about the system of human resource management and about the techniques, which might be used to develop such system.

  • Identify appropriate features of existing HRM systems

  • Develop a suitable human resource management system for the maintenance of leave records online and the various issues related to the leaves.

  • Critically review the performance of this system of human resource management in terms of display of notices, approval and rejection of leaves, complete records from the date of joining and the display of notices.

  • Provision for extra holidays and annual leaves.

Background research of employees Gen Y and job requirements (Requirements towards holidays) – more flexibility around holidays and salary (Current HR don’t offer that kind of flexibility). The HRM systems which already exist face the problem in providing a mathematical algorithm that would calculate any extra holidays or paid leaves for staff. Therefore, employees need more flexibility. The human resource management system will help the staff to obtain extra holidays or paid leaves through calculating certain details. It will be easy to calculate the salaries; the system will not be costly and can be used by large companies as well. The system will be supportive to generation Y as they want to work in flexible timings and this will help them in increasing efficiency and effectiveness and they will be able to give more productive output to the company. So, the element should be added to the human resource management system.
The system of human resource management will be user-friendly so that the employees can easily access it. It will be ensured that the HRM system will function smoothly in order to maintain the records. The development of HRM system is fulfill the given objectives or not, the system configures the policies and procedures of the company correctly. The historical data of the company can easily be converted in order to improve the goals and objectives of the company along with developing a good HR system for the generation Y. Therefore, this will help in effective working of the HRM system in an organization.

Background review

According to the researchers, generation Y employment is also known as the generation of the millennial. This generation includes the people who were born between 1982 -2000. Millennial have a very different and unique outlook about their expectations from the experience of the jobs. They are more educated, technologically skilled, confident, ability to do multi-tasking, etc. as compared to baby boomers. They want the system of human resource management as they are more technology savvy and they want to save time and cost by maintaining online protected and secured records as they want to focus on other important aspects to increase the productivity and efficiency as well rather than wasting hours in maintaining records manually (Marler et al., 2013).
The human resource management system is the connection between the information technology and the management of human resource. Many organizations have a very large number of employees, and it is very difficult to maintain the system. Therefore, the human resource management system will make it easy to maintain, record and retrieve the infromation. There are some systems which are already in use and are similar to the system which being an individual I want to develop in my project (Peretz, H., 2013). Orange HRM- this is a tool of human resource which is used by the midsize and small size companies. There is an option to install and download the system on the hardware. Orange HRM includes the various features like self-service of the employee, benefits, training, history of the salary and job, etc. The Orange HRM can be installed by the installer of the Windows like Linux, Mac, etc. The plans for the support and customizations can also be purchased for the installation of Orange HRM but this system cannot be applied to the big companies. Simple HRM- it is a version of open source which has the features like the information of employee, management of expenses, travel, reporting of the task, etc. It can be installed on the LAMP and WAMP in order to use but the system lacks the capturing of shadow files in order to recover from the disaster. Waypoint HR- it is also used for the midsize and small size businesses and the software include the details like personal details of the employee, details of the employment contract, records of the grievance and discipline, appraisals, terminations, etc. but the system fails to run in case of multiple users. The tools and software which are commonly used in the effective development of such systems of human resource management are pages of Java Server, Active Server Pages.NET, Python, PHP, MySQL, the database of Oracle, etc. (Purce, J., 2014). The HRM system will be having all the features of the above given systems but their disadvantages will be turned into strengths of this system. Therefore, the development of these tools will help in the creation of the HR system of flexible leaves for the generation Y.
According to the researchers, there are some social, ethical and legal issues which impact the effective development of human resource management system both in the negative and positive way and also influence the practices of human resource management. Therefore, the company must develop the system for the generation Y which will be more flexible and legal. For example, expand the diversity of culture at the place of work as people come from different background and religion, the emergence of issues related to the work and family, the increasing use of temporary and part-time employees, increased importance on the team work and the quality of work of the employees, the growing affair of takeovers and mergers, the growing affair of layoffs and downsizing, the technology advancement, more focus on the improvement of quality continuously, the rate of illiteracy workforce which is very high, etc. (Tariq, O. and Zhu, G., 2014). Therefore, these issues will be focused and achieved in order to develop the effective HRM system by keeping the very given objective in mind (Wang, Y.M. and Wang, Y.C., 2016).

Methodology and resources

The main focus while developing the effective human resource management system will be on the applications of leaves of the staff. Firstly, I will see the usage of tools and systems thoroughly which are in use presently for the small and midsize businesses, and I will develop the system of human resource management linked with an active application system. Then, I will analyze the functional and non- functional constraints for my system. Then, I will identify that which tool I can use in my system so that it can be easily installed and downloaded on the various computers. Then, I will identify the risk involved in the system and will make some measures in order to manage the risk. The budget will be estimated.
The system planning of initial phase and there will be various improvements in the future. The ideas are basic and there are chances of numerous rectification. The functional requirements of my HRM system will be authentication (logout or login), authorization (checking the role of the user), process data (display, edit, search, etc.), leave application (approval, days accrued, days to be taken), report generation, check lists and record retention. The non-functional requirements of the HRM system will be performance (no restriction on the number of users), hardware (memory, capacity, OS, etc.), data base management system (MySQL). The final system will be tested and evaluated by using it in schools or universities before applying on the big organizations. I will also get the help of the expert in order to make my HRM system effective without any corrections. There will be no extra effort manually, there will be no loss of data, only some knowledge will be required in order to operate and handle the system, and there will be no extra requirement of the hardware. The VB.NET, ADO.NET language will be used in the human resource management system. I will develop some strategies in order to manage these type of risks like I will accept the risk if it is too important for the effective development of the system. The activity or plan will be modified in order to reduce the chances of risk, and it will be managed easily.
Therefore, the above-given requirements will help in developing the effective human resource management system that will deal with holidays or extra paid leaves application through the staff applying for a holiday or for annual leave.
