Child interview: Piaget’s developmental stage (Sensory Motor Stage, birth-2 yrs)
To assess the current case, a baby boy (age, 12 months) from neighborhood is selected. According to Piaget’s developmental stages, the boy is holding a stage of Sensory Motor Stage. The stage, Sensory Motor Stage is the earliest in Piaget's theory of cognitive development (Smith & Von, 1986) and is characterized by tremendous growth and change. The children experience the world and gain knowledge through their senses and motor movements. As children interact with their environments, they go through an astonishing amount of cognitive growth in a relatively short period of time. The stage begins at birth and lasts through 24 months of age. From the case, the boy is unable to focus the requirements of others and looks to be 'ego centric' (Frick, Mohring & Newcombe, 2014). The baby is able to build his own objects around him from the knowledge that he has developed on what can be done with the object. When an object is taken from his area, he acts as though the object has ceased to exist indicating the 'object permanence'. He was searching for the object and was crying after taking the object from his area. The child is showing clear intentional actions also possessing schemas in order to achieve a desired effect. The behavior of baby pertaining to the cognition, interaction, reciprocation at this stage is indicating that the features are associated with the cognition and can be referred as the stage is "sensory motor stage" (Kuhl, 2010)
Adult interview: Erikson’s Developmental stage (Intimacy vs. Isolation)
An adult individual (Age, 25 years) who stays nearby home is chosen for interview to assess the stage. Among the stages, sixth stage so called 'Intimacy vs. Isolation' is chosen as it suits for the adult with an age of 18 to 40 years (Weinberger, Hofstein & Whitbourne, 2008). Intimacy vs. Isolation is applicable to young adults to face the challenge of forming close relationships with others. They develop intimate friendships and partnerships (Closson et al., 2015). The young adult is able to share his thoughts and plans more intimately with others. He is exploring the relationships leading toward longer term commitments with someone other than a family member. He is asking the scope of opportunities for survival and better prospectus for jobs. He has enthusiasm in seeking the information transportation and general details. The individual appears to succeed in establishing a good relationship and a comfortable sense of commitment. Such practices of intimacy help the adult in mingling with the society, failing which can lead to isolation, loneliness, and sometimes depression. The success at this stage will lead to the virtue of love. The behavior of adult upon interaction is indicating that he has acquired the skills of 'intimacy and isolation' a stage of Erikson’s Developmental stages. He is able to understand what is best? What to do? What not to do? According to Erikson, the individual is able resolve various psychosocial conflicts and is able to move from one stage to another stage. So among the aspects i.e., intimacy vs isolation, the pattern of intimacy is seen in the individual. Therefore the adult demonstrated the stage 'intimacy and isolation'.
