Techno-Pro is a technology company which have been given the responsibility developing a project for a retail chain. It is an ecommerce project targeted to sell products of the company to the online sellers. The report has been prepared to develop an ecommerce website. The report will consider various elements that are important for the project's success such as time, cost, human resources, and others. The retail store owner is currently in one city only and wants to capture the greater number of customer base and he has realised that the use of online medium can be the best possible method. The owner is planning to cater to the online consumers all over the country through the courier service where the courier charges will be inclusive in the prices those will reflect on the ecommerce platform. The store owner has consulted Techno-Pro for the project development as the company. The owner used to deal in offline retail sales of men’s clothes. The changes in the market conditions and advent in technology led to the realisation that the company can benefit more if it harnesses the improved method for customer access. The online platform can give the company access to wide range of customers, even to those who cannot be reached through physical methods. At the beginning of the project, the owner stated that it has enough monetary stability to afford an online e-commerce business. The owner used in-house staffs from the Information Technology department along with a web-developer who was hired on a temporary basis. The owner wants to implement cloud computing for the data that will be collected of the customers interacting with the online ecommerce platform in any form.
Mentioned below are the risks that have been identified as associated with the development of the project management (Kerzner, 2013) of the eCommerce:
- The lack of proper interface of the site might impact the usability to the users and, thus, they may do less visit at the online store as developed. The failure of the project to understand the experience expectation of the end user might impact the project result.
- There are various supply chain issues that are associated with the ecommerce project development such as failure of development of a dashboard that allows the suppliers to properly interact with the buyers in the real time which might delay the product sale.
- The next is the delay of the project due to any issue in the management of the human resource within the organization. Moreover, the delay will impact the budget structure of the project. This delay will incur more cost.
The risk ranking of the issues identified above will help the project manager in identifying the risks and acting as per the ranking order (Burke, 2013). The risk ranking helps the manager in understanding which one needs to be handled first in case of any issues. The risks stated above can be ranked as per the criticality criteria. The management of conflict in the human resources should be considered as the first priority as it will impact the project progress the moment it occurs (Schwalbe, 2015). The dashboard issues and the poor interface development should be the second priority as it needs to be developed from proper decisions with the various stakeholders and further budget allocation.
The project manager will be monitoring the project at different levels based on the timelines stated and the budget allowed by the owner of the store. The project manager need to monitor the project as there are two important factors that leads to the deviation of the project, they are time and cost (. Projects often goes slow due to various reasons and which eventually impacts the time and cost of the overall project. Such issues lead to delayed delivery of the project to the clients. Therefore, it is important that the project manager is handling and monitoring the project with effectiveness and proper consideration of all the factors and timelines stated.
The risk associated with the ecommerce project management has been identified which is likely to help the project manager take prudent steps while moving ahead with the project development.
