Answer ( 1 )

  1. Nosocomial infections are also termed as hospital-acquired infections. They are a subset of infectious diseases acquired in a health-care facility. The infection that are not present at admission but develop at least 48 hours after admission are considered as nosocomial. These infections can lead to severe health issues, including death. Nosocomial infections are caused by various bacteria, viruses, and fungi. However, the most common is the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Other common pathogens like Candida, Enterococci, Escherichia coli, etc. are also responsible. In some of the cases, the antibiotic-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are highly dangerous and difficult to treat.
