The first test I performed was the skin tone IAT. Before the test started, I had given my preference as no automatic preference between Dark Skinned People and Light Skinned People. The same reflected in my results. I do not have an automatic preference; I did not measure colorism with bias against people of color such as “black is synonymous with ugly or rotten”. I would have been surprised if the results had been opposite of what I expected. However, what alarmed me was I felt agitated when negative terms such as ugly, rotten, etc. were associated with blacks. This made me realize that I might have a preference towards dark-skinned people due to the perpetual racial discrimination.
