1.1Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning

The self-managed learning allows individuals to manage themselves through learning which helps in continuing the extended capabilities of the individuals for leading and managing their own learning without being reliant on another individual for managing the learning. The importance of self-managed learning includes:
1.    Acquisition of new skills and using them efficiently.
2.    Selecting our chosen field of interest and be highly-informed about it.
3.    Developing an aptitude towards new information
4.    Attaining new goals without relying on anyone.
5.    Inspire and assist using the self- confidence

My approach:

I prefer listening, lecture, and seeing my lecturer while he is speaking so as to gain better interest. Mostly, I like being alone when I come across new knowledge and learn various things using books, the internet, seminars, friends, etc. as they help to concentrate cell. I need to correct myself in time management as this skill is required critically.  I need to organize myself in a professional manner so as to become successful. 


1.2 Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts could be encouraged


So as to encourage the lifelong learning, people should rely on the short-term and long-term goals encouraging them to enhance their potentials and skills and further to increase the scope of their lifelong learning. A definite direction is provided with the help of long-term and short-term goals thereby opening the path of lifelong learning for a longer period. Being in a Bank enables me to interact with new people and with high workload along with balancing my studies, I have to enable this criterion for sticking to lifelong learning. It has been estimated by various researches that work pressure, or psychological challenge increases the learning capability further encouraging one self in the continuous learning process. The learning attitude is enhanced by this technique. Additionally, the chances of healthy competition one of the useful technique for attaining result orientated and excellent alternative so as to encourage the lifelong learning (Koprowska, 2010). The personal development is highly dependent on healthy competition and in the case of genuine competition, an envy-free environment can be created. In order to stimulate the lifelong learning and its attitude for personal and professional context, these techniques will be highly beneficial.

Banking industry can hire employees who are good at multi-tasking and are dynamic with the wide range of intellect and knowledge from their fields and can be relied upon on the important decision-making processes. If Banking Industry can hire employees with self-managed learning attitudes, then they can increase their competency and perform better at the workplace and will be able to establish themselves as the leader of the marketplace (Back and et. al., 2003).

Therefore, self-managed learning can help in increasing both personal and professional advantage for the individuals.  


2.1Evaluate own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organisational objectives


I am a Relationship Manager in the Commercial Department of National Bank of Abu Dhabi. Being a Relationship Manager is a highly skilled job requiring various competencies with suitable attitude and knowledge. The skills possessed by a Relationship Manager are as followed:
1.    People management skill
2.    Team building skill
3.    Counselling skill
4.    Work Supervision skill
5.    Time management skill
6.    Communication skill
7.    Problem-solving skill
8.    Effective negotiation skill
9.    Administrative skill
10.    High level of emotional intelligence
11.    Empathetic towards all

I personally believe to have equipped all these skills, but I lack find myself to lack time management skills as I seem to lack the ability to organize things effectively. Although I have been trying to work on this shortcoming, I still believe in working on it.

I have understood and assessed by strengths and weaknesses and are summarized as below:

Self -SWOT Analysis

Strengths

1.    Continuing my undergraduate studies which will open doors for me to grow.
2.    Switching to a new role that matches my skills and where I can see myself shine.
3.    The merger of my current employer with another bank which will make me work in the largest bank in the Middle East. (Bigger Organization = Bigger room to grow).    Threats
1.    A new generation of UAE nationals who are highly qualified that could pose a threat to my career.
2.    Market conditions make it hard for me to achieve my targets.
3.    The promotion will not be applicable if I don’t finish my undergraduate studies.
 

Kolb’s Learning Style

As per the Kolb’s four learning styles, I consider my self to be a diverger as I look to things from various perspectives and I am quite sensitive and use my imagination for solving the problems. I tend to work better in the situations which require me to generate ideas and I am very interest in people and have strong interperosnal skills and I can listen to people with open mind. 

Honey and Mumford Style
I considered myself to be an activist as I learn by doing. I like to involve myself and learn from new experiences. I act first and then consider all the consequences. I like working in groups and tend to be good at role-playing exercises, problem solving etc.I am open minded and I like to involve myself thoroughly without being biased towards the new experiences.  

2.2 Identify own development needs and the activities required to meet them.

The development needs for a Relationship Manager in National Bank of Abu Dhabi are mentioned as given below:
1.    Decisive thinker Understands the data and information instantly and makes use of the robust decisions.
2.    Collaborative: the ability to deal with people present inside and outside the organization.
3.    Personally credible: be highly proficient in commercial and Human Resource issues and also has a professional attitude. 
4.    Skilled Influencer is capable of bringing the commitments for benefitting the organization.
5.    Courage to the challenge: is courageous to take the initial step and present challenges for the staff in the unfamiliar situations.
6.    Driven to deliver: displays determinations and equips a great sense of purpose so as to accomplish the tasks.

I personally believe that I have all these developments needs and am a right candidate for my organization. The activities meeting my own development needs are:
a.    Through the internet: the internet acts as an arrangement between the computers empowering the information to be exchanged.
b.    Thorugh the workplace project: the personal and professional long-life learning presents the workplace and helps in enhancing the challenges and test aptitude for skills of workers. The awareness will be advanced if the members of the groups take their roles and tasks.
c.    Seminars and Conferences: These are the key points for running a successful organization. Additionally, various training programs also assist the organization for adding value to their work.Others include newsgroup, interview, social system, social network, research, etc.

2.3 Identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs.

a.    Interpersonal Skills: These are life abilities which can be utilized for speaking and communicating with people. People with effective interpersonal skills are seen to be effective in personal and professional lives. The interpersonal skills include verbal, non-verbal, listening skills, problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making and assertiveness.
b.    Verbal Relational Abilities: Clarity of speech, with no panic and taking time for essential guidelines helping in the verbal communication and have effective spoken correspondence, listening aptitudes, etc.
c.    Presentation Skills: these are required in every field of work and therefore one should have the ability to present their points and ideas effectively to their colleagues and seniors.
d.    Leadership Skills: Team Leadership, I provide guidance, direction, instruction and leadership to my team members so as to achieve the key result.

3.1 Discuss the process and activities required to implement the development plan.


SMART GOALS
I have outlined SMART Goals for identifying the processes for successful execution of my development plan:
Specific: I will finish my studies in HND and pursue my bachelor’s degree as it will be important for my professional career.
Measurable: I will acquire my bachelor degree by the end of 2018.
Attainable: I use my skills as per the objectives of the company, and I can learn various other skills during my course.
Realistic: I want to achieve my bachelor’s degree and will give cent percent in order to achieve this goal.
Timely: I will plan by goals have full confidence that I will plan and improvise accordingly.
3.2 Undertake and document development activities as planned.
Additionally, I will put my best foot forward to quit smoking, restart my hobby and manage my personal and professional life effectively.
My personal development needs:
1.    Training needs: So as to understand the business, ecological, individual, security or well-being for my own development.
2.    Upgrading my building gear, new courses of actions so as to retrain on their operation and utilization.
3.3 Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan.
The three professional objectives of the NBAD are mentioned as follows:
1.    Home market –build the largest, safest and best-performing bank first in the UAE, and over time in GCC.
2.    Wholesale network markets – deepen our wholesale network across the new West-East Corridor & further integrate our existing European & North American platforms into this network.
3.    New franchise markets - Build 5 international bank franchises in the largest and fastest growing economies in the West- East Corridor.
My aims and objectives are:
Setting and monitoring performance objectives: I will set individual destinations which are not unrealistic and can be easily accomplished. I will stretch my individual targets whenever achievable. Along these lines, I will try to be profitable for my organization and will attain my individual objectives of my personal life.
 

3.4 Update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation.

I received feedback from my classmates and friends and realized that would need to improve some of my qualities and shortcomings when I conducted a self-evaluation test.
Time- management    I am not able to organize different things and not able to complete things on time leading to pressure and tension.
Still Studying    The fact that I'm still studying has a huge impact on my professional career. It's causing me issues & delays regarding promotions and pay raise.
Personal Issues    Unable to work out and lose the excess weight & smoking hefty amount of cigarettes which causing me problems health wise.

4.1 Select solutions to work-based problems

a. Team Problems
Due to the standard similarity, group issues are seen to emerge out, some of the issues arise if:
1.    There is no feeling of responsibility,
2.    Craving to achieve other’s position,
3.    Cost of congruity is very high
4.    Some employee declines to adjust to the standards of organizations etc.
Solution: Listen to the needs and wants of all the team members and the legitimate issues must be worked out for enhancing team management in the organization. I will pair those team members who have issues with them and switch the partners every month so as to attain good relationship between the employees.
b.    Training issues
The newly hired employees lack technical skills, and the old employees do not have good technical skills for handling the job properly. Therefore, at least two years of service experience will be asked from the newly hired ones, and the previous ones will be provided technical training courses.


4.2 Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels

 
The communication styles involve effective listening, speaking, respecting others, negotiating, being assertive, presentation, counseling etc. I always keep up to date due to my business acumen and share it with my colleagues. I listen to my bosses and pay attention to what they say. I explain everything carefully and always share whenever we have some new tasks or strategies. I plan meetings twice a week so as to know about the progress of the work. In these meetings, I ask all the employees to share their problems and communicate with them during the working hours. In case, the issue is not resolved; I try to negotiate. I present my presentations and works together with non-verbal communication and depict posture, expressions, gestures and my presentation effectively; I believe my communication style will fit my organization, and it will be beneficial for other people as well.


4.3 Evaluate and use effective time management strategies

I have some issues with time management skills, and therefore I should try to include activities like:
a.    Doing the basic tasks by myself.
b.    Identifying the key undertakings and the targets
c.     Schedule time for problematic errands
d.    Delegating adequately etc.
This will be beneficial in working systematically and therefore completing all the objectives and tasks on time and in an organized manner. This will help in dealing with everything on time and will reduce the anxiety level. This will in turn help in benefitting with the professional work.
