I consider leadership lessons as an integral part for the development of an individual. I have learned various leadership lessons throughout my educational and practical life. Mentioned below are some of the most important leadership lessons that I have learned so far:
Dare to Decide: The biggest hurdle a leader can face is in taking the right decision at the right moment. A leader should have the ability to take the dare of making decisions against the all odds.
Emotions at Bay: The leaders interact with various individuals which impact the mental state all the time. Therefore, to being a leader it is important that one has stable emotional state. An individual with a stable emotion will be able to informed decisions.
Humility and Drive: The leader should not be arrogant or egoistic or it will impact the long term relationship and impact of the individual on the group. Therefore, the humility and drive is the most important aspect of a leader.
More Give, Less Take: The leaders should know what their followers want. The leaders should look towards fulfilling the need of the leaders and only after that one should look towards ones’ own need. When it is noticed by the followers that the leader is willing to give more than he or she takes, then the devotion of the followers drastically increase towards the leader.
Popular Way may not be the Best: A leader should know that the way being suggested by everyone might not be the best way for the future well-being of everyone. For instance, whenever a mob takes on a thought to vandalize something then it can be stated morally incorrect from the point of view of a great leader.
Success Mentality: The leaders should have positive mentality towards looking at things and must have a success mentality (which definitely comes from the success mentality). The success mentality constantly presses the leader to work hard towards the goal due to the possibility of even one percent of success rate.
Team Focus: The leaders are leader till they are with the teams that dedicatedly follow them. Therefore, the leaders should have complete focus on the team to keep it integrated and protected from the external forces that can harm the culture of the team.
Vision: The first and the most important aspect of a leader are to have a vision. Vision guides the leaders towards future achievements. A leader with a great team and without strong vision is useless and will reach nowhere in comparison to a leader with mediocre team and a strong vision.
Wise Decisions: Taking wise decision is another aspect of decision making along with ‘dare to decide’ for the leaders. Taking informed decisions is important to ward off the evil forces moving towards disrupting the progress. Wise decisions consider all the possible alternative solutions and associated risks and then choose the right alternative.
These were some of the leadership lessons which I have learned so far and I hope there will be many which I will learn in the days to come.
